We have always considered and collected these commercial masks and helmets as industries tribal art. Examples can be elegant in their simplicity or bazaar and complex. They are always unique, suprising and filled with personality.
1965 Morgan Drop Head Coupe
Over the years I've owned and restored many antique cars. This is the most trouble free and reliable antique car I have ever owned. It has never failed to start, has never overheated or been stuck on the side of the road. If you want to drive this Morgan to a show 200 miles away or take it for any long weekend trip.... This is a car for you. Most people start their car descriptions raving about how rare and beautiful a car is. I'll get to that soon! This is an older restoration that is still nice enough to drive into any car show and be proud of. It's not the show winner but still turns heads. The Drop Head Coupe is one of the rare Morgans and not an easy one to find. I went looking for a DHC not because it was rare. I'm six foot tall with older knees. The DHC has a deeper dash and a steering wheel that is not up against your chest. Unlike other Morgans the doors are hinged in the back. You can easily slide back into the drivers seat. It was the only Morgan I was ever comfortable in. The DHC's body still has a wood frame but is a totally different car than the roadsters. Of all the Morgan models the Drop Head Coupe was the most elegant. The top can be set in 3 different positions... down, up and the back up with the top open over the driver. The doors do not dip down and go straight across. The side curtains pin right in on the door top. When the curtains are not in place there is a chrome strip that it put in to nicely finish the doors top. Also unique to this models body is the Bustle Back shape that cradles the spare tire. The windshield frame is part of the body and not a bolt on. It has the original Triumph engine and Solex carbs. Hardened valves were installed to better run on unleaded gas. We also installed a high volume aluminum core racing radiator. It looks exactly like the original and was our secret to never overheating again. The original fuel pump is there but we prefer to run with an electrical pump that was installed as well. All 5 wheels are chrome wire with knock-off hubs. The car has about 75K miles on it.
