There is an “Antiques” section with 7 different categories that are filled with for-sale items.

This wooden bicycle is one even a seasoned collector may not know. “The Ligna” really is a scarce example and worthy as a museum display. All wooden wheel and frame antique bicycles are among the rarest and this more so. There were few made and very costly. The Hickory wood was strong but still susceptible to moisture and weather. The construction of this model uses more wood than any other maker. This example is an original surviver… Just the tires are replacements. All we did was clean it a bit. Note that even the handlebars are steam bent wood. Included is a beautiful period Carbide headlight. “THE LIGNA” name was used by the Chicago department store Franklin MacVeagh & Company in the 1890s as their brand. The manufacturer is now unknown. We know of only 3 others out there.

This is a clean older restoration…. We just had it running. I’ve had this piece of jewelry sitting on display in my den for years. This rarity was manufactured by Stanley W Shaw from Galesburg, IL. Shaw as a successful light auxiliary engine manufacturer in the early 20th century. In 1911, Shaw took over the Kokomo Motorcycle factory from Kokomo, IN. Kokomo had produced a 300cc side valve machine that had not been very successful simply because it was underpowered. Shaw transferred the production back to Galesburg and enlarged the engine to 400cc. Between 1912 and 1920, approximately 240 Kokomo Shaw motorcycles were sold. The 1913 Shaw Motorcycle actually began as a kit similar to the well known Whizzer motorbikes. This example sits on a Shaw frame as well.

The Elgin brand was one of America’s most prestigious, and Elgin bicycles were sold exclusively through Sears & Roebuck catalogues and stores. This 1930 Elgin Cardinal is a classic of its era. This wonderful machine, with its flat side tank (which is actually a toolbox with a flap opening on one side), truss front fork, cross brace handlebars and spring saddle all give this a motorcycle look. This is just the right bicycle for this nicely restored Briggs and Stratton Motor Wheel. The Briggs & Stratton Motor Wheel was the first motorized vehicle ever owned by many tens of thousands of Americans, many were attached to bicycles and some were fitted to the rear of the Briggs & Stratton Flyer Cyclecar. The bicycle Motor Wheel with its special brackets are the most difficult of the to find. Very few Briggs & Stratton Motor Wheels have survived the almost 100 years since their manufacture, so complete and functioning examples are now much sought after by collectors. This example was completely done and runs smoothly.

Since being saved from their lamp posts, these Industrial globes have been rewired for modern, indoor use. They are the original and are signed Europhane. We love this type of prismatic glass because of the wonderful light they project. The glass is designed to get the most out of a bulb. They are impressive and have a dramatic look. Try different bulbs and produce a new look. We have a small collection of these in stock… $1800

If you search the internet for this Adams-Bagnall street lamp you will find out just how rare these are. They are on every lamp collectors wish list. It’s nice to hang a rare lamp but it still needs to look great as well. I think this was one of the most striking Industrial lamps made. It is a street light… but it has a sense of style rarely found in municipal lighting. I’m amazed that it still has the original 12 inch diameter 120 year old glass globe… as well as the blue porcelain shade. Its easy to spot a very early glass globe. It has a unique color all its own. The use of manganese in the original manufacturing process, combined with over a 100 years of sun and carbon arc light are responsible for turning the glass from clear to this beautiful subtle purple/lavender. These 1800s lamps were in use before the light bulb was introduced. Everything has been rewired for home use and is now illuminated by a cluster of five antique style filament candelabra bulbs. The lamp is signed and dated on a brass plaque… We have 2 different examples in stock.

SOME HISTORY…. The AB hanging copper arc lamp was designed and patented by Thomas E. Adams for the Adams-Bagnall Electric Co., Cleveland, OH. Mr. Adams was considered an expert in erecting and repairing General Electric light Apparatus. During the 1880s he patented numerous improvements on electric light and railway systems, including the wood segment commutator of the brush dynamo; the brush-adams arc lamp, the double pole trolley, etc. in 1895 he became associated with others (former workers of the brush/swan incandescent plant) in the organization of the Adams-Bagnall Electric Company.
